Grapple X was one among a group of tests named Operation Grapple. It was a hydrogen bomb test. It was exploded over Christmas Island. The explosion did some damage to the island due to unexpected high yield.

This was France’s first two-stage thermonuclear test. It was carried out at Fangataufa atoll. It was detonated at an altitude of 1800 feet above the atoll. This test is portrayed in the film Godzilla as being responsible for the creation of the monster.
