The doubt that some of us have regarding the autopilot technology is even shared by the makers of the car as they have installed backup procedures that will take effect if anything is to go wrong. If the computer happens to be unsure whether it can drive safely, it will slow down and pull over. However, in this case, there was not much to worry about as the Tesla S was on a straight piece of the freeway with traffic, moving accordingly, long after the driver became a passenger.
