The REFLECT Project: Convicts’ Letters to Their Younger Selves

It was 2009 when photographer Trent Bell discovered that a friend of his had made some bad decisions, which led to a sentencing of 36 years in prison. It made him think about the certain decisions we make and how these alter our paths in life. This brought about the ‘REFLECT’ Project in which he interviewed and asked convicts to write letters to their younger selves… and the results were gut-wrenching and eye-opening.

The highlight of this project are these profile shots of the convicts surrounded by their very own words addressed to their younger selves. And just a word of caution, these images are nothing short of depressing yet somewhat inspiration as well:
