This designer/architect took the music of the waves to another level. In 2005, a Croatian architect named Nikola Basic designed a 230-foot-long organ that takes the rhythm of the ocean’s waves and turn it into actual music. Nothing like we’ve ever seen before.
The Sea Organ (or Morske Orgulje) which was placed on the coast near the Croatian town of Zadar and along the picturesque Adriatic Sea, is the perfect place to go when you want to tread lightly on a set of white stone steps as a cool breeze rolls past and be entertained by music created by nature. In the steps of the structure, narrow channels were carved and connected to 35 organ pipes, each tuned to different meticulously arranged musical chords.
As the waves lap against the steps, they push air through the pipes and out whistle-holes in the surface above, making a harmonious and completely random musical arrangement. The action that happens below for the sounds to be made is however unseen from the surface.
If you ever get the chance to visit the site in Croatia one day, close your eyes and listen to the never before played song of the waves, one completely unique to the movement of the sea at that exact moment.
Here is what the Sea Organ sounded like at one particular moment.
