A patent has been submitted by Apple that sheds light on how future displays will work. This patent is aimed at proposing a way to ensure privacy on portable devices by making the contents of the screen visible to only who’s vertically looking at the device.
Though the device shown above is an iPod classic, which is part of the patent submission, this technology is clearly aiming at next-generation touch-screen devices. The patent primarily works by steering light in a particular angle, as opposed to like what happens now that is emitting it in all directions.
The patent also includes particulars on how the feature might be implemented. As revealed in the picture above, there could be options of changing the viewing angle and maybe turning off “privacy mode” totally, providing users with flexibility on how they’d want to use this feature, if at all.
