The 2.4L models, GLS and Limited come with a six-speed automatic transmission and a choice of front and all-wheel drive. The base GL model is equipped with the 2.0L engine with five-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive as standard, but a six-speed automatic option is also available.

The MPG ratings are 23 city and 31 highway for the automatic, while 20 city and 27 highway for the manual-transmission models.

The SE version is powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 173 horsepower and 166 pound-feet of torque with four-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive as standard. The fuel ratings are 19 mpg city/26 mpg highway.

The Journey SXT and Crew get a 3.6-liter V6 producing 283 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. They also come with six-speed automatic, front-wheel drive as standard and all-wheel drive as optional. Its fuel economy stands at 17 city/25 highway with front-wheel drive and 16/24 with all-wheel drive.

No 4. 2012 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport

This crossover comes with standard voice-activated electronics interface and is available as ES and SE models. Both models are powered by a 2.0-liter inline-4 engine that produces 148 hp and 145 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard, with AWD available on the SE. The ES has a five-speed manual transmission with CVT as an option, the SE model comes with CVT as standard.

The CVT front-wheel drive has a fuel economy of 25 city/31 highway, manual has 24/31, while the AWD comes in at 23/28.

No 3. 2012 Kia Sportage

The 2012 Kia Sportage comes with plenty of premium features and intuitive controls. It is available in 2.4L inline-4-cylinder and turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder configurations. The 2.4L engine is capable of 176 hp and 168 pound-feet of torque while the latter produces 260 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. All models come standard as front-wheel drive with AWD offered as an option on all but the base model. Similarly, six-speed manual is the only transmission offered on base models, while all other versions come with a six-speed automatic with manual shift feature.

The 2.4L engine models have a fuel economy of 22 mpg city/32 mpg highway while the turbocharged 2.0L engine model is rated at 22/29.
