The Study
A recent study published by the journal Nature Communications presents us with the image and qualities of the father and mother of all flowers. Yes, this means the earliest flower was bisexual. It shared both female and male parts. The researchers essentially reconstructed the ancestor of the angiosperm flower which is 140 million years old. While many flowers exist today that share similarities with it, none have the exact same characteristics as this ancestral flower.
