Curiosities Of The Easter Celebration

Capt. Sean Levine, chaplain, 117th Infantry Battalion, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, presents the trikeri or triple candle, which represents the Holy Trinity, for the observers to light candles during an Eastern Orthodox Easter or Pascha (a Christian version of Passover) service at Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, April 23.

Spiritual Meditation

Easter is considered the oldest Christian holiday and the most important for the Christian community. During Friday they would commemorate the death of Jesus with the Holy Supper, then remain in meditation during Saturday and lastly celebrate the resurrection of Jesus on Sunday.  Some prefer to abstain from eating meat and other abstain from participating in non-religious celebrations during the week.
