Stunning Portraits created with Hammer and Nails

Art is not restricted to the basic canvas and brushes. Instead of using ink and paper, artist David Foster hammers thousands of nails onto a canvas to create these incredibly meticulous art pieces. Each piece requires some technical methodology which proves Foster’s love for technical drawing as an architect. Each piece is based off of a photograph that the artist first replicates using an ink pen. He then enlarges the drawing to use as his guide for the final pieces.

These drawings range from 5,000 nails to 30,000. The level of realism Foster achieves with the nails is incredible and it has taken several years to master this technique. He varies the solidity and shading of these nails to create stunning portraits of celebrities, animals.
