Unsurprisingly, humans are much more dangerous than sharks

The sheer magnitude of shark hunting is conveyed in this infographic. Humans are not really in competition with sharks of course, but if we were it would be no contest – we are the far more nefarious species. Moreover the method by which many sharks are hunted – finning causes unnecessary suffering and pain. Shark finning continues because it is profitable – a single fin can fetch $10,000 to $20,000. Up to 70 million sharks are killed in this way every year. Meanwhile, 30 percent of shark species are  threatened or near-threatened with extinction.
