While it seemingly came out of nowhere this year, the fidget spinner actually has it’s origins around two decades ago. Catherine Heittinger, a chemical engineer developed the toy with the purpose of helping people with conditions such as hyperactivity and adhd. However, some lawyers are disputing this version of the story. They claim that the “spinners” that Heittinger modeled actually have little resemblance to the fidget spinners that recently became popular. Now, the patent situation of the fidget spinner has become unclear, to say the least.
