As crazy as it sounds but yes some ambitious scientists are trying to bring extinct Mammoths back to life. Scientists have successfully acquired the DNA from tissue sample of extinct Mammoth remains, preserved in Russia. Now they are thinking to create a new embryo which they will implant in elephant’s uterus.
Question is why elephants? Since they are the closest living relatives of these extinct species, they will yield the best results. Previously, similar genetic experiments have been conducted by the scientists on mice and were a success. They successfully cloned mice by using some frozen cells of a mouse that died 16 years ago.
Scientist are hopeful of creating a clone of mammoth in next 5 to 6 years. Lets just hope and watch how they bring extinct animals to life. Do you think one day we will be cloning dead humans?

Their extinct for a reason. They should not try to play god. Karma will bite them in the ass eventually.
Wow, that was awesome! Hope this experiment will success and make next generation know what are “Mammoth”!!!
What will be next?? Dinosaurs?? Did the scientists ever think that dinosaurs &mammoths are extinct because God wants it that way!!!
I don’t think this research should be given a go:-
1. Einstein said “God never rolls a dice”. Mammoths are extinct for a reason and not by chance.
2. What if the mammoths thrive and then pose threat to humans?
@michelle. How ignorant.
That’s like saying you have cancer for a reaso
God wanted it that way so don’t go to a doctor
This is awesome. If the Wright brothers had the tiny minds these people have here then we would all be walking.
Well honestly it’s a bad idea not because of “god” bullshit, but if they can make this work.. what’s stopping them from being back something that’s actually dangerous that’s suppose to be extinct?
I find this exciting! Science plays a fantastic role in our understanding of this world and all that is around and within us.
Sorry for those who think God somehow would disapprove, and these comments are a bit disturbing.
Ash, Guns will re-kill anything too dangerous.
unless they bring back something that is resistant to tank fire, we’re safe.
@jessics
There not playing god this is his will and of it want he wouldn’t have put the sciencetest in the position to re make this animal
Lol @ people who believe in ‘God’… Your opinion is invalid because you believe in a make believe story, known as ‘The Bible’. You may as well believe in a Disney book and pray to Hercules every night. Stop using your ignorant religious beliefs to hinder world progress. “God wanted them extinct” haha really? Just like he wanted the Baiji River Dolphin to go extinct? Your imaginary God controls nothing… With that being said, bring on the Mammoths!!
That’s a horrible idea.Science has came a long way but on this issue they should leave that alone. We all have loved one’s that have past away but the thought of bringing them back seriously!!It goes against the laws of nature, spend your time and funding on preservation of life and where exactly are all these mammoths going to live? what’s next the dinosaur..leave the dead alone.
Cory the only ignorance is someone who thinks that other people’s opinions don’t matter. So stop with the name calling and grow up. Great tht you think this is good, and it’s great that others don’t. That that great thing about people, they ea h have a rift to their own opinion.
Everytime science decides to play around with nature, we all have to deal with disasterous consequences. Think about the killer bee, for instance. Because European honey bees produce more honey, and because African honey bees breed faster and establish more hives in a shorter time frame, scientists decided to roll the dice to see if interbreeding the two species would result in the best of both worlds. What they got was an aggressive hybrid that would spread throughout the southern United States and become a sometimes deadly nuissance. Scientists attempted to prevent soil erosion in the Appalachian Mountains and in the foothills by introducing a foreign plant, the kudzu vine, into the environment. What they got was an invasive, over-sized weed that grows several feet in length over night. Now they want to bring back the mammoth. Nature selected that species for extinction for a reason. Were it a species for which modern humans were responsible, such as the dodo or the passenger pidgeon, it would help to restore the balance rather than further upsetting it. The dilemma that I see in this experiment is that every mammoth they clone would be born into captivity — and they would all have to spend their entire lives in captivity. The modern world offers no habitat for these ancient beasts. To introduce them into the wild would bring chaos to the ecosystem that would not only pose a threat to modern day species, but also to the mammoths themselves. I say let the dead rest in peace.
I thnk its a stupid idea!bcoz science n technology is growing does not mean that limits should b crossed!if you really thnk dat its not Gods will den ur mistaken coz God gve dem dat brain in which der tryn 2 go against hs will!
Then you had better not go to a hospital God gave you cancer for a reason.
Morons get your head out your arse.
Do I believe in God? You better believe it.
He gave me a brain and I intend to use it.
He gave us the ability to think.
Pity he never put a self distruct switch onto stupid people. The world would be a better place.
Try thinking for a change, instead of having stupid opinions.
Your opinions are usually based on your bias.
this will be interesting. hey if they can do that then they can bring Jimi Hendrix back too. “God” has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with it. life happens for whatever reason.
All you can do is posting comment related to god.
While nobody can show that god exists, science can be proved.
Oh come on!
I cannot believe this “God wanted them to be extinct” crap!
I am not saying that I do not believe in God, but just think about it. If you’re such a huge believer, what’s so difficult in believing that if God doesn’t want them walking on earth again, scientists won’t be able to do it!
Mr.Imhere,
Give us a proof show that God is not exist
lol
Awad- it’s not about proving something doesn’t exist, it’s about proving something DOES exist. Can prove through science many things exist and are real- can give what example of god ever existing? None. At all.
You F*&king people hav no sense
I believe in god and destiny….everything happens for a reason good or bad! I think its cool but could come with consequents….but it was meant to be.
Weither it be from God or nature they are extinct. So let it be! I agree that there will be nowhere for them to be in the wild. It could be very disastrous to nature. Use your brilliant minds to cure cancer and help further in every disease that there is and help those people be able to have hope when there is none. They say Chrones is not curable so find a cure! Stop cancer from ever happening. Leave the dead alone and help the living!
You Bible thumpers just drive me crazy. You are all too lazy to actually think. If “God” didn’t want us to do it. He wouldn’t of gave the tools or direction to even come close. Go make your ignorant offspring so you can try and halt humanity’s progress.
One thing God has given us is free will. Most of the terrible things that happen in the world are mostly caused by us humans! Not God.
There is no god. If humans can clone anything it is because humans can do anything. Deal with it.
Bring back Marilyn Monroe so that I can fuck her!
I think it’s interesting. We would learn some exciting stuff. Now they can bring back to life the last Galapagos Tortoise that died last week.
Hahaha, these funny people posting funny comments… Me thinks watches too much Jurassic Park. IF the Scientists wants to do science, let them do science… If the Theocrats wants to preach, let them preach but in church, not in public. In my humble onion, I find this story thrilling.
THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF ANY SUPERNATURAL GOD! Why is this so hard for people to grasp?!
everything happens for a reason..DEAD should remain DEAD..whatever the intention is..
Some one said here that there was a reason for their extinction. And that we should not play ‘God’ because of Karma will bite one in the ass. {Jessics}.
Yes there is a reason for their extinction, Humans. They where killed off by early humans for food and ivory.
Jessics you are an ignorant fool. Check basic evidence before you show the world that you are stupid
Let me pose something to you people who use God as a reason why they shouldnt do this. If it is as you say and God wanted the mammoth extinct, then also it is God who gave us the scientific research to bring them back from extinction. Its God’s will right?
Now aside from that, this has the possibility of opening so many new avenues of scientific research, it would be amazing if they can achieve this.
It’s not a matter of whether god exists or not… I’m sure their’s a lot of pros and cons to both goin ahead in research and not doing it…. ‘God(s)’ mereley a name… Their are amazing things yet to be explained in this world, but explaining them is really just labeling them for our minds to process. I choose to perceive God as everything, yet nothing..
We certainly shouldn’t clone dead humans or ANY TYPE of cloning on humans. This defies the ways of life and nature. Humans are a superior race of intellegence, but too much intellegence is being abused. We need to accept the death of mammoths. It’s life. Cloning animals shouldn’t be compared on cloning humans. Cloning humans is just taboo and looses human dignity.
Whether the cloning should or should not happen is null. It is happening.
I wonder what the scientists plan to do with the mammoths(s) when it (and it’s offspring) gets big.
Dear god, it’s Jurassic Park in the making!
WHY do they want to bring them back? Just to say they did? To have the newly un-extinct great, massive mammoth sit in a cage in a zoo? Why??
Bring on the zombie apocalypse!
God had nothing to do with mammoths dying out. Mammoths died out due to a number of reasons, such as being hunted by humans, climate change, lack of food and possibly competition from other mammals such as themselves or possibly disease. This was no act of God, they were just unable to adapt to the earth’s changes.
To all those who complain that “God” will be displeased by our actions: If God didn’t want us to venture out into the unknown but instead follow his script, then why did he grant us free will to enable us to do so? How do you know he isn’t sitting up there impressed at what we have achieved as a race? I know if I made some intelligent life and they did some of the things humans did I would be impressed! We should just go for it, besides if it goes wrong we still have guns….
How much will the meat cost? That’s what I’m most interested in.
This is amazing the dodo could be brought back to life, and this could prevent future exstinctions such as the panda or leopard!!
God gave us freewill, so we can do what we want if we have the knowledge to do so. He didn’t specifically say, don’t use science to make a clone of an animal that died long ago…I think it’s an interesting experiment that will most likely open doors to solving other problems as with almost all scientific experiments. And to those who say ‘GOD ISN’T REAL’ please prove it. If you can explain how the big bang occurred then you can start to decide if God exists or not.
It’s Jurassic Park all over again…
Great news.
Cloning has been successful once before with Dolly the sheep. I don’t see why it can’t be with this Mammoth.
It is great to see scientists breaking barriers and attempting new things. It is a scientists job to push the boundaries of modern science and make the impossible possible.
I wish them all the best. Good luck.
There are many people saying this is wrong because they are extinct and everything happens for a reason, i.e they are dead for a reason. The people who argue this are contradicting their own argument because if these scientists succeed then surely this has also happened for a reason. People who use this as an argument are bias to their own beliefs and are using this argument as a scapegoat to portray those beliefs. Also, for believers in God, if it is against Gods will, isn’t he supposed to be all knowing and all powerful and all everything? In which case if the scientist do this, surely that means it was his plan all along. One more thing… If God doesn’t want this to happen then surely this experiment will fail. I suppose, in conclusion, everyone has there own beliefs and because it is their belief it will only be that belief that will be right for that person. This is my opinion. Respect to every other persons thought
God created man in his own image, and in that image the ability to create and destroy, so whats the problem here, and as for killer bees, think of all the good things that have come out of cross breading, like better horses and dairy cattle, the list is endless really, but killer bees get all the headlines
haha all you little fucking retards! god this god that. Religion is the downfall of society, no debate. also by creating 1 mammoth how are they gna take over the world. some seriously low IQs on this page, my bet mostly americans. They died for a reason? yes, it got too cold, an ice age would you believe.
