How to Add The Recent Items In Dock

Did you know that there is a feature of adding stacks of recent items to the dock bar? This is one of the great features in Mac OS X and users can take great benefit from this feature as well. This allows the users to access the files or application they frequently use to be at within easy approach. The feature is available through the option of Recent items in Mac OS X.

The Recent items not only keep tracks of the files and folders and application viewed by the user in a frequent manner but also allow them to access them through it. Luckily the feature is available with a customization option that allows the user to customize it according to how they want it to be as.

To get this feature to work, the user does need to have Mac OS X 10.5 version along with the ease of using the command prompt to bring up the changes in the dock items through the use of various commands.

The following steps would get the user started up on how to customize and add the recent items to the dock bar,

  • Go to Applications – Utilities and Terminal and launch it
  • Get the following line of code entered in the terminal and press the return key once the code is in it.
  • defaults write com.apple.dock persistent-others -array-add ‘{ “tile-data” = { “list-type” = 1; }; “tile-type” = “recents-tile”; }’
  • Once the code has been applied the dock will disappear for a few moments and then will reappear.
  • Remember to match the command with the kill all in the end.
  • Once the effects have taken place enter exit and exit the terminal window and see if the changes have been applied.
