7. Tutankhamun’s Tomb (KV62)

The British Egyptologist made a marvelous discovery in the year 1922 found in the Valley of the Kings. Carter and his employer had been searching for Tut since Theodore M. They found the Tutankhamun’s Tomb which was the most intact tomb ever found. It was believde that the tomb was built for someone else but as Tutankhanum died so young, the said tomb was made the royal tomb. It was belived that it was to be the tomb of Ankhesenamun, Nefertiti or Smenkhare. Tut’s tomb was supposed to have a burial chamber, a treasury, an annex and an antechamber, which is entered by a stairway and a sloped corridor. As the accounts suggest, it also contained a treasure trove of ancient Egyptians objects including statues, model boats, chariots and even two mummified fetuses.  Tutankhamun’s tomb was famous not because his tomb was luxurious, nor because he was the most powerful rulers but because it was the most intact tomb ever found in the Valley of the Kings.

5. The Lascaux Cave

Lascaux is a very vast cave known for its many Paleolithic cave paintings. The Lascaux is located near the southwestern France. The Lascaux was founded by four teenagers, Marcel Ravidat, Jacques Marsal, Georges Agnel and Simon Coencas on September 12, 1940. The cave consisted of nearly 2000 figures each giving different concept and idea. The paintings included figures of animals, humans and abstract signs inside the cave. The animals that were painted include stags, cattle, bisons, felines, a bird, a rhinoceros and a bear. These paintings give the idea that the cave has been a painting place for prehistoric people, they visit it periodically for some art competition or else.

In 1948 Lascaux was opened to the public but the amount of daily visitors to the cave were changing the atmosphere inside the cave so it was closed in 1963 and 20 years later an exact replica, Lascaux II was opened. Today the cave is under attack by a series of molds, fungi and bacteria threatening to erase this priceless work of Prehistoric art.

The Lascaux Cave is not only the largest Prehistoric cave in France, but the best preserved. One of the paintings called “The Crossed Bison” shows the skill of the cave painters to capture realism. The ability to use perspective was not used again until the 15th century. From these paintings we can also determine what types of animals were available and important to the painters.
