#7 China World Trade Center III

The Beijing’s World Trade Center III lies at number 7 in our top ranking list for the world’s tallest buildings. It was the contractor Arup’s fourth project being recognized as the world’s tallest building. In the architectural language it was Skidmore Owings and Merrill designed structure having a total of 74 storeys. It lies in a very active geological region of high seismic activity. In order to make it an earthquake proof building Arup introduced a composite steel plate shear wall at the base of the tower to cope with stress placed on it during an earthquake. #5 John Hancock Centre

The largest steel building of Chicago was completed in the year 1969 using steel as the main building material for the John Hancock Center. The building was another Skidmore Ownings and Merrill designed project using the concept of Khan’s trussed tube structural engineering design. The design provides more durability and strength to the outer shell of the building making it one of the strongest buildings against strong shear waves. The construction of the tube structure began in the year 1965 and the project was undertaken by Tishman Construction Company. The following mentioned company has also undertaken the project of Twin Towers in the year 1972 and is currently working in the replacement of same project.
