7. F-14 Tomcat – Mach 2.37

The US navy required a long-range and agile paced fighter plane which has the capability to destroy and execute targets from pretty long distances. Grumman answered their call and provided them with F-14 which eventually replaced F-111B, the production started in the year 1970s. Later its engine was upgraded to provide reliability and performance upgrade. F-14 is equipped with variable-sweep wings and a huge fuel capacity. The plane was an ace against the uprising Air force of Soviet Union.

6. Su-24 Fencer – Mach 2.4

Su-24 was built in the competition to meet the war tactics and provide air supremacy against world’s super powers the Su-21 Fencer is often compared with U.S’s F-111 and proved to be a much better fighter plane than F-111. The Plane was much faster, light, more powerful and having the capability to hit mach 2.4 at low altitudes. The supersonic plane is equipped with missiles, laser taggers/ designators and terrain radar making the Fencer more powerful fighter plane than F-111. The plane was introduced into military in 1974. 1,400 Su-24 Fencers were produced 650 of them belonged to Soviet Union, Fencers gradually lost the market in U.S.S.R as more and advanced Su-34 came into being, still it have been observed that Su-24 still serves U.S.S.R’s Air force and is being used by countries like Iran, Algeria, Iraq, Libya, Belarus, and many other.

5. F-111 Aardvark – Mach 2.5

The F-111 Aardvark is one of the most powerful and leading fighter planes among the U.S’s top notch Air force. The plane is famous for its entirely detachable and enclosed module designed for the two crewmen in the plane in the event that they will need to do an emergency eject. The Plane has served the U.S. as a strategic bomber. The first prototype was created in the year 1960s by General Dynamics. The F-111 Aardvark made its maiden flight in the year 1964 and started serving U.S. Air force in the year 1967. The plane made rigorous up gradation and finally F-111F came to life, which revolutionized air fighting and bombing techniques. The latest model is equipped of a very powerful engines, terrain-following radar, and laser-guided weapons. All of the previous conflicts were fixed and the Aardvark became a highly useful aircraft for many years. F-111 was widely used airplane during the Vietnam War, due to changing and varying circumstances, the plane had to bear extremely heavy loss. The U.S. retired the plane in the year 1998. Now the plane has become an artifact for the U.S. Air force and been placed in the museum.

4. F-15 Eagle – Mach 2.5

The U.S Air force demanded a newly designed aircraft equipped with long-range capabilities providing air superiority. The idea came into being in the year 1965 to develop F-15 Eagle which could replace the classic design F-4 Phantom. After seven years of sheer hard work McDonnell Douglas, a company now better known as Boeing, placed the American dreams to reality. F-15 Eagle a swift plane having large wings and amazing agility for larger airplane measuring about 64 feet in length and 42 feet just in the wingspan. The plane was light, powerful and having an outrun speed of 2.5 mach (however it is only able to go about 1.78 mach when fully loaded with weapons). Many new models were developed after its development like all other series of Fighter Planes, including F-15A and F-15D, the newer models were much more advanced and better than their predecessor. The F-15 Eagle is still serving U.S. forces including National Guard as well as the Air Force. Many other countries have also decided to keep using the F-15. These countries include Japan, Israel, and Saudi Arabia.
