Science has revolutionized our life to unimaginable extents. Humans have performed spectacular feats in innovation and technology. Yet there exists phenomenons that Science simply fails to explain.
No 10. WOW Signal
This is considered to be one of the most convincing evidence suggesting the presence of extra terrestrial life. The Wow! signal was a strong narrowband radio signal detected by Dr. Jerry R. Ehman on August 15, 1977, while working on a SETI project at The Big Ear radio telescope of Ohio State University. The signal bore expected hallmarks of potential non-terrestrial and non-solar system origin. It lasted for the full 72 second duration that Big Ear observed it, but has not been detected again.Stunned by the extra ordinary signal in the computer printout, Dr. Ehman wrote “WoW” besides the signal code. The signal was named after this comment. Repeated efforts were made to detect the signals again using more sophisticated equipment but no signal was detected ever again. The original print out of the WOW signal, complete with Jerry Ehman’s famous exclamation, is preserved by the Ohio Historical Society.
No 9. Pioneer’s Anomaly
The Pioneer anomaly or Pioneer effect is the observed deviation from predicted trajectories and velocities of various unmanned spacecraft visiting the outer solar system, most notably Pioneer 10 and Pioneer 11.
Both Pioneer spacecraft are escaping from the solar system, and are slowing down under the influence of the Sun’s gravity. Upon very close examination, however, they are slowing down slightly more than expected. The effect can be modeled as a slight additional acceleration towards the Sun. The anomaly has no universally accepted explanation. The explanation may be mundane, such as measurement error, thrust from gas leakage or uneven radiation of heat. However, it is also possible that current physical theory does not correctly explain the behaviour of the craft relative to the sun.
