Named after General Creighton Abrams, former Army Chief of Staff and Commander of US military forces in Vietnam from 1968 to 1972, this tank is a third-generation main battle tank of the US and is considered to be one of the best in business. This tank is also among the heaviest tanks in the world with a weight of 61.3 tonnes. Its one notable feature is the use of a powerful gas turbine engine. The M1 Abrams entered the US service in 1980 replacing the M60 Patton.
