This guide is useful if you have the following problem
1. You are running Vista or Windows 7 on a Macbook using bootcamp. It can be unibody/ Macbook Pro 13/ Macbook Pro 15 or any other screen size.
2. You have no audio/ sound. In macbook pro, you may also see a red light in your audio jack.
This might also be helpful if your are having a very low sound volume.
To Fix Simply follow the steps below
Step 1:
Download the Macbook Pro Cirrus Logic CS4206A Driver from our server. Again, do not worry if you are running Windows 7 or Vista. (As a request, please do not hotlink this file anywhere else or our server will automatically remove the file from server.)
UPDATE: For newer Macbooks, you might need a newer driver which is availble here
Incase the above download link does not work, google “CirrusAudio.10.6.1.zip”. We found another working mirror here.
Step 2:
Extract the right type of Driver (depending on your windows XP/ 7/ 32 bit/ 64bit)
Step3:
This step is only for Windows 7 not Vista. Right Click on exe file of driver. Select Properties> Compatibility > Check run in compatibility as shown below. Select Windows Vista from drop down menu and Click OK
Step 4:
Double click the driver and install.
Run your favourite sound track because your sound is now working. You can also play the video below to test your sound

I spent days trying to fix it. Thanks for this wonderful tutorial.
Worked the very first time. Thanks
I went to apple store and asked their tech guy. He spent a lot of time but could not fix it. Thanks for sharing. I can now enjoy my mac
You are a genius. I tried everything on internet, but nothing worked. Apple website wasn’t helpful until I found realitypod. Wonderful work guys. Thanks a bunch

it does not work: ( I just followed all the tutorial
Sorry to hear that. It has worked for many people (including on my own mac). Could you please tell me the details of your macbook (model, Sound card manufacturer) and detailed explanation of your problem. I will try to help you then. Good luck
I have a Macbook Pro 2008 unibody model. My problem is that my sound is really low and it cracks a lot.. So I thought of trying your method, but in my notebook instead of cirrus drivers, I have nvidia ones.. So any help for me to increase the volume and also to make it clear???
nVidia sound driver? Sounds like a wrong driver install. Try to uninstall the driver and make sure you do not do the auto-search for drivers. Then install the cirrus drivers. Hopefully that will work. I am assuming that you are using Windows 7 on your macbook pro using bootcamp.
u ve made ma day……………..

hey excellent i used the mac disk first and had nothing but problems do you have advice in installing the video for the same system…….
@fmn…Glad it helped you…..
You haven’t explained your video problem. Generally, for video there is a problem of co-processor. You can solve it using one of my previous posts here http://realitypod.com/2010/07/macbook-pro-running-windows-7-missing-coprocessor-driver-final-fix/
If you have any other specific problem, let me know and I will help you
My macbook pro is the newest one on the apple store (the one came out in May 2010) and this does not work when I plug in the speaker on to the audio output. And I’m using win 7 pro x64. Do you have any ideas?
Hi Duny!
There is an issue with plug of some Macbooks that I know of. You may find this post helpful (its opposite of your problem but cause is same I think) http://realitypod.com/2010/03/solved-macbook-pro-no-sound-from-internal-speakers/
Don’t hesitate to write back if it does not solve your Problem.

Yo dude! My speakers are now functioning, but my headphones don’t give not even the slightest sound!
The green “sound/volume/fader” in the hardware&sound options in my Windows 7 32bit IS indication that it’s playing full volume…
Thanks for fixing my speakers anyways!!!:D
Can anyone help me out?
Worked perfectly! Macbook Pro 2010 17″, working like a charm.
One note though: The first link you give links to a zip file that only contains a few .sys files. The mirror has an exe called CirrusAudioVista64.exe, run it – and it works, no other steps need
Oh and the video does not work, as its vevo content.
Thanks again, you’ve really helped me out

- I have installed Windows 7 with Bootcamp 3.0.4 on my Macbook
- No sound output with internal speakers and very low sound output with headphone jack.
- Intel High Definition Audio is the driver shown when using Mac OSX. When using Windows 7, High Definition Audio is the driver shown.

http://realitypod.com/2010/03/solved-macbook-pro-no-sound-from-internal-speakers/
I hope it helps you solve the problem
Please help.
I have tried your solution exactly as described, but i still have the red light coming out from the jack and no sound at all (even with headset) even though the green level on the volume icon is moving when i play something.
I also try sticking a matchstick inside the jack but no result there either.
I’m on a MacBook Pro 15″ (2009), Core 2 Duo P8600 @ 2.40GHz, 8GB RAM, W7 (64bit) on Boot Camp.
[sound works well on Mac OS side]
Please help.
Thx-
@YNS5…..try installing the windows XP driver in compatibility mode. This trick worked for some people running Windows 7
Thx for ur prompt reply.
I tried with all 3 installs (XP, 32 and 64) and all compatibility modes. Nada.
Only the 64 works for me, but it doesnt give me the option of XP compatibility…only vista or server 2008.
Any other suggestions plz.
Many thx-
I SO LOVE YOU!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Sweet…it worked! thanks a lot!
it doesnt work on my macbook Pro,windows 7 64 bit
@Mario! Did you try the Win XP driver (even though you are using Win 7) in compatibility mode as stated above? Doing so has actually worked for some people running 64bit windows
@Geek! Win7 64 bit wont let you install/execute the the Win XP driver. It gives you a msg saying: “You have to run the 64-bit version of DPInst.exe on this machine.”
@YNS5….Some one ran XP setup using compatibly mode but you are right, it should not install that but do give it a try. Can you check which sound card you have?
Genius…an actual working fix to this stupid apple problem. Finally, windows 7 works with sound! =) ty Keep up the good work you legend!
